Black River is the blackwater river that originates at the conjunction of several swamps just to the south of the city of Bishopville and flows southeasterly on the coastal plain of South Carolina, emptying into the Great Pee Dee River a few miles north of Georgetown, then flowing into Winyah Bay. The Great Pee Dee River and the Waccamaw River both drain to the Atlantic Ocean through Winyah Bay.
