Myrtle Beach Internation Airport Expansion and Modernization Project
The Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is the gateway to Myrtle Beach, SC, the Grand Strand and the Hammock Coast. The Myrtle Beach International Airport is owned by Horry County and operated by the Department of Airports. MYR is served by Allegiant, American, Avelo, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, Porter, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, and United Airlines.
As domestic air travel continues its rapid growth post-pandemic, MYR identified a need to renovate and expand its existing buildings and associated infrastructure to accommodate current and future growth. As a popular travel destination, airport leadership realized the need to maintain a high level of customer service while also showcasing the local community and greater region.
In June of 2024, the Myrtle Beach International Airport marked a significant moment in its history with the commencement of the highly anticipated “Concourse A Expansion and Modernization Project”. Construction of the $90 million dollar project will be completed over an approximate 18 months period – estimated to be completed in December of 2025. The expansion project will have phased milestones ensuring minimal disruption to airport operations during construction. Once completed, the expanded A Concourse will accommodate the increasing influx of passengers and serve as a beacon of progress for the Grand Strand region.
Gresham Smith, as a top-ranked architecture, engineering and design firm, is helping realize this vision by leading the effort to expand and modernize the existing building’s 12 gate concourses into an 18 gate terminal building, developing a design solution that will improve the airport and act as a modern gateway for visitors and locals alike when complete in 2025.
In addition to increasing the number of gates in Concourse A (new gates 7 through 12) by 6, other features of the modernization project will include revamped restrooms, new flooring, improved signage, and new concessions throughout the existing terminal.
