January 2025 video of the new waterfront community of Blue Heron Retreat by Ashton Woods in North Myrtle Beach
As of January 2025, land is continuing to be cleared along Robert Edge Parkway in North Myrtle Beach on parcel of land that runs along the Intracoastal Waterway where the new home community of Blue Heron Retreat is being developed.
A new home community location along the Intracoastal Waterway is obviously appealing, but proximity to the Robert Edge Parkway that feeds right into the heart of North Myrtle Beach likely further increases that appeal. Robert Edge Parkway extends from SC Highway 90 west to US Highway 17 at Main Street in North Myrtle Beach and includes a bridge over the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and an interchange at Carolina Bays Parkway. The Robert Edge Parkway (named after Robert Edge) opened in September 2009 and was the final project in Horry County’s initial Road Improvement and Development Effort (RIDE) program. Robert Edge is a well-known name in the Grand Strand. Robert Edge, Sr. was the first mayor of North Myrtle Beach in 1968 when the beach towns of Ocean Drive Beach, Crescent Beach (of which Robert Edge Sr. had been the mayor) and Windy Hill came together to form North Myrtle Beach.
Ashton Woods is the builder in the new home community of Blue Heron Retreat in North Myrtle Beach. Ashton Woods is an award-winning luxury home builder. Ashton Woods might be relatively new to the Myrtle Beach area, but the company began building homes in 1989 and now Ashton Woods is building design-forward homes in thoughtfully selected communities across the country. Ashton Woods is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, but sells new homes in not only the Myrtle Beach area, but also in Atlanta, Austin, Charleston, Dallas, Houston, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh and San Antonio. In 2017, Ashton Woods launched Starlight Homes for those who always felt the dream of home ownership was just out of reach. Now, over 50,000 families have had the privilege of calling an Ashton Woods or Starlight home their own.
Blue Heron Retreat will be the second Myrtle Beach area new home community under the name Ashton Woods. Ashton Woods has been currently building homes in Carolina Forest - in the new home community named Trieste at Bella Vita.
Under Ashton Woods' Starlight Homes brand, there are two new home communities in the Myrtle Beach area: (1) Andalusia in Longs, and (2) Plantersfield in Conway.
Preliminary plans from Ashton Woods in Blue Heron Retreat are showing approximately 74 single family homes - named the Blue Heron Retreat: Oasis Series. Within the Blue Heron Retreat: Oasis Series of single-family homes, preliminary plans from Ashton Woods are showing 65 these single-family homes to be situated along the Intracoastal Waterway. Preliminary plans from Ashton Woods are also showing an additional 210 villas (Blue Heron Retreat: Villas) – some with pond views. Future community amenities in Blue Heron Retreat by Ashton Woods will be a swimming pool, pickleball courts and a day dock on the Intracoastal Waterway.
As of January 2025, Ashton Woods has not yet announced the exact floor plans, timing or pricing of the single-family homes or villas at Blue Heron Retreat in North Myrtle Beach/Little River but does anticipate sales starting around April 2025.
