2022-01-11 - Marion County Council Unanimously Approved Resolution in support of Interstate 73

Marion County Council Resolution

2021-12-14 - Myrtle Beach City Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution to fund the construction of Interstate 73. Under the resolution, the city would commit $4.2 million annually over 30 years for the project.

2021-12-06 - North Myrtle Beach City Council voted unanimously to commit $1.7 million each year to fund the proposed interstate. Other qualifications must be met each year before the city commits the money, but the hospitality tax will be used for the contribution.

Surfworks Myrtle Beach - Targeting End of Summer 2023

Surfworks, South Carolina's first surf & adventure park, will be opening in the heart of America's favorite family beach destination, Myrtle Beach.

As of January 2022, Surfworks is going through the permit drafting process to be ready for earthwork towards the spring/summer of 2022.   This would have them making waves towards the end of summer 2023.

Myrtle Beach welcomes over 20 million annual visitors. Many of these visitors book surf lesson during their stay. A surf park, powered by Wavegarden, will offer perfect waves all day, every day. This facility will be the ideal place for learning to surf and progressing rapidly.

Fannie Mae Requirements for comparable sales for new (or recently converted) projects

Fannie Mae requirements have been revised in December 2021 for comparable sales when the subject property is one of the first sales in a new or recently converted condo project, subdivision, or PUD containing 2 to 20 properties.  Fannie Mae now will allow the appraiser to use comparable sales from outside the project that meet the following:

▪ the comparable sales must be from a similar type of project, subdivision, or PUD; and

▪ the comparable project, subdivision, or PUD must be another development that has similar units, amenities, and is a similar size to the subject.

U-Haul listed Myrtle Beach 17th in the country for one-way moves using U-Haul trucks.

U-Haul provides an annual listing of “growth cities” – by calculating the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks entering a city/market versus leaving that city/market in a calendar year.

U-Haul listed Myrtle Beach 17th in the country for one-way moves using U-Haul trucks. The one-way truck trips rose 32% from the same metric in 2020, according to the "U-Haul Growth Index" released from the company.

Horry County Purchases Land for Augusta Plantation Interchange

Horry County has officially finalized the purchase of the property for the future Augusta Plantation Interchange along SC 31 connecting Augusta Plantation to Revolutionary Way.

A Request for Qualifications is currently going through the County’s procurement process with the selection of an Engineering Design Firm anticipated in January 2022. Following those negotiations, the County will have more information regarding the construction cost and project timeline.
